Bird Whistle for Michael Graves Kettle

direct replacement of original - good and bad
This is a direct replacement of the original Bird Whistle which melted when someone left the kettle on the stove. Why was the kettle left on the stove you ask? Well, partly due to the weak whistle of the Bird Whistle not being heard from the other room. The other issue with that removing the Bird Whistle to pour your boiling water is not the easiest - it holds in pretty well and the steam is coming out of the whistle when you try to remove it. So unless you want to risk getting a steam burn, you need to have a pot holder or other protection.

So while the Bird Whistle is a direct replacement of the original, that means while it has the fun and whimsical design of the original which I like, it also has the design issues and safety issues of the original.

Alessi Stainless Steel Kettle with Melodic Whistle

Elegant but flawed
We have owned this model for at least 10 years. It is heavy and solid, but within one year the trigger spring broke. Balance is poor and the spout a little lower on the body than it should be for a good pour. The plastic insulation on the lower part of the handle is starting to melt. I have no idea how to replace the worn parts.
