garbage
I bought this because it says it is stainless! What kind of stainless discolors because of water. I don't know if it is rust. It looks like mold but I know its not. I'm trying to use bar keepers friend on it to get it off but it's not working. It came with a little note that said dry it out after use to prevent discoloration. The whole point of buying stainless steel is that it wont stain. Had I known this I would have bought a pretty one that I would expect to stain. Sam's sold one several years ago that looked just like this. My whistle fell apart so I bought this thinking it was the same thing. It's not. This is cheap and now I will be throwing it in the garbage! This took 2 months of everyday use to look like garbage on the inside.
The good news and the bad news.
The good news is that this kettle has a large water capacity, and a rather loud whistle. The whistle is not particularly pleasant, but it's really not unpleasant either. It has a heavy stainless steel body, and it's appearance is fairly nice.
The bad news is that the black rubber parts on the handle and lid look really cheap, and the lid leaks just enough steam to make the lever you pull to pour the water very hot! Too hot to not use a potholder to open it.
In the long run I think the rubber parts will deteriorate, which makes me wish sprung the cash for the Chantal. I like the utiliarian look of the kettle, but if these parts were a little better quality I'd give it another star. I mean it does boil water, which is the whole point, so I won't lose sleep over having to use a potholder. Once the rubber is destroyed, I will likely buy a different kettle.
Fluke
I spent HOURS shopping for the best tea kettle last night, and decided that I would probably buy this one in the morning from Amazon-from a different brand name! I went to a different website and found the exact same tea kettle sold under a different name that is also featured on this website! Additionally, that "version" of the kettle IS dishwasher safe and has a copper bottom! The version is called the Chef's Secret 2.75qt Surgical Stainless Steel Tea Kettle with Copper Capsule Bottom and even seems to disguise the fact that is the same tea kettle by rounding up the 2.75 qt capacity on that kettle to a listed 2.8 qt capacity on this one. IT IS DEFINITELY THE EXACT SAME TEA KETTLE AND SINCE I CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHICH COMPANY IT IS ACTUALLY SOLD BUY, if it is in fact dishwasher safe, and which bottom I will receive, I WON'T BE TAKING MY CHANCES WITH THIS ONE!!
